In the last year, we have seen that the climate justice movement has increased around the world, the Climate summit in Paris in December will be an opportunity to show this strength. For that reason in the next Basta we want to show a movie that reflex this change in the global conscience: This Changes Everything.
Inspired by Naomi Klein’s book This Changes Everything and directed by Avi Lewis, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.
Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.
After screening we will discuss the different actions that are being prepared for the big mobilization that will take place during the COP 21 in Paris.
