Vrijdagavond 6 september 19.30 uur vindt in boekhandel de Rooie Rat een presentatie plaats van het boek De mythe van de groene economie.  Eén van de auteurs, Matthias Lievens, komt er over vertellen en discussiëren.

Anneleen Kenis en Matthias, beide verbonden aan de universiteit Leuven, schreven een goed en informatief boek waarin wordt afgerekend met de opvatting dat een verdere klimaatverandering kan worden voorkomen door de markteconomie te vergroenen. Wat nodig is volgens de auteurs is minder welvaart, eerlijk delen van welvaart, meer democratie en vooral minder marktwerking. Overheden komen er in het boek slecht vanaf, omdat ze effectieve maatregelen om de uitstoot van CO2 te beperken zoveel mogelijk proberen te voorkomen om zodoende economische belangen te beschermen. Als het aan regeringen en overheden ligt ziet het er dus somber uit. De auteurs roepen de burger op tot actie, verzet en burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid. Een boek dat veel gelezen moet worden.

Friday evening September 6th at 19.30u a book presentation of the book ‘The Myth of the Green Economy’ takes place in Political Bookshop De Rooie Rat. One of the authors, Matthias Lievens, will come to discuss his point of view.

Anneleen Kenis en Matthias, both associated with the university of Leuven, wrote a high quality and informative book in which they reject the assumption that climate change can be stopped by making the market economy ‘greener’ – more environmentally friendly. According to the authors the solution would be to strive for less ‘prosperity’, a fairer share in wealth, more democracy and most of all; less competitive market forces. Governments are highly criticized for their attempts to minimize regulations on CO2 emissions in order to protect economic interest, and should therefore not be counted on. Instead, the authors call on citizens to become active through means of resistance and civil disobedience. A book which should be read by everyone.
